  1. Great post. I’d say that GTA V is my favorite. I really enjoy the 3-character mechanic and Trevor is a great character 😀

  2. I love, love, LOVE the few GTA games that I’ve played, but I gotta rank Chinatown Wars as my favorite (and that’s only very slightly over GTA IV, my gateway). It’s top-down madness on the Nintendo DS! It’s insanity wrapped in craziness tied up a with a bow of ridiculousness! Okay, I have to admit that I don’t know if its story is all that memorable, but it’s cast of characters holds its own against other more prominent GTA games. And it’s one that Nintendo, of all companies, took a risk on. It’s an underrated gem.

    • Almost forgot about “Chinatown Wars. Such a surprising collaboration between RockStar and Nintendo. I forget sometimes just how many GTA games there have been!

      Thanks for your comment.

  3. Nice post! I always saw the GTA games as big sandboxes to just be as ridiculous as possible. It’s one of the best “blow off steam” games out there,” really. I also started, like you, on the first GTA with the top down view, and even that was pretty brutal for its time. When I moved on to GTA3 on the PS2 some years later, it was so much more realistic in some ways, but not a single time did I think any of that transferred to real life. That was a long time ago, but even though the franchise has evolved, I don’t see any problem with a bit of the old ultrra-violence in a video game. If it was real, it wouldn’t be called a video game!

    • Spot on Geddy. I can’t think of too many games that allow you to let off some steam with the same satisfaction that the GTA series has. I think ultra violence in games is fine in moderation.

      Thanks for the comment.
