On Friday one of the worst atrocities inflicted by a terrorist organisation since the Madrid bombings occurred in Paris, resulting in multiple casualties and hundreds more wounded. I was deeply saddened and horrified by the callous hostility demonstrated by a terrorist group whose name won’t be published, as they deserve no further media recognition for their vile expressions. Any event of such magnitude would be cause for condolence and grievance, yet this heinous perpetration was only exacerbated by my girlfriends arrival in the capital earlier on that day. I wasn’t notified of the attack until late in the evening when I promptly attempted to contact my girlfriend. And for the briefest of moments, for half a heart beat I thought I’d lost her. Almost believing that she had gone to an ethereal realm where I could not follow. She is fine thankfully, returning today a little shaken and rather surprised by the level of media surveillance, with events scrutinised with such intimate detail, with her knowing less about what had occurred than I had. Upon being informed of the increasingly precarious circumstances on the Friday, the following day her-and friends she was accompanied by had broached the idea of returning home early. Though their request for premature withdraw from the capital was declined, staff as well as the quickly assembled authorities present across the city assured her that the security and protection their accommodation and it’s residents were of the utmost priority. I’m just glad that she has returned home safe, receiving copious amounts of back tickles and hugs.
And the display of solidarity demonstrated by the French citizens as well as other nations across the globe merely validates that no matter how selfish the interests of extremist doctrines that profess misguided interpretation of religious connotations, through violence and fear as symbols of ideology won’t deter the liberty of humanity. Stay strong Paris, the world has your back!
And I’ll leave you now with this passage from one of the most popular scriptures in the world.
“Whosoever kills an innocent human being, it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind….”
