There’s something strangely alluring about observing a verbal exchange of dissent, providing there is robust distance maintained from the epicentre. It evokes those nostalgic memories of watching my grandparents reciprocating irrevocable ignorance for each others innocuous presence. “All you do is come home reeking of booze and cigars”. My Nan accuses. “Well it’s the only way I can tolerate you crusty old goat!” Replies my Grandfather. Oh the guffaw! Ah the memories. Not even the onset of advanced rheumatism could diminish their verbal reprisals. Of course this detailed recollection has personal exclusivity attached, but such provocations aren’t limited to eccentricity of age, but an abiding foundation for many gaming forums. Though I’ll admit that the excessive use of language submitted from such hostile contributors, especially considering the litany of belligerent conversions and ignorance to their grammatical frailties is aberrant, it’s undeniably amusing to watch gamers type such displaced ferocity on such pedestrian concerns.
One of my favourite hobbies is browsing through high traffic forums or comment sections on marginally more populated sites such as IGN. Scrolling with clandestine anonymity as I browse eclectic musings of individuals canvassed under variously enigmatic pseudonyms they imply some vivacious, cerebral supremacy (Xxkiller007xX, neckbreaker24 or fairypixygiraffe001) and recanting their ordained wisdom. It’s a comical ballet of pirouetting past disparaging insults and counter by divulging abbreviated expletives, with vacuous summations largely falsified to exhibit a fraudulent claim of authenticity, with immunity to any facts that contradict their estimations, which is where the fun begins. They validate their expressive opinions at the behest of their emotional opinions or vindictive malice, creating fractious isolation from vast contributors and in the absence of a suitable mediary providing stability, there’s a capitulation of discriminative exchanges often resulting in reciprocating enmity, churlish name calling and largely unsophisticated banter. Honestly they may as well fling excrement from their rooftops rather than interact with civilisation.Their social maladies aside, there is always great deal of reaction when any of these custodians drag their plaintive opinions to the forefront. Your wading through text consisting of plentiful acronyms and misplaced emoticons, hopelessly betrothed to primitive misogyny when a female dares to express her reaction and tether off from the original point of the thread! (What were we talking about again?)
There’s no revised deviation, just subverted biased robustly upheld which is commendable, particularly when the opinions expressed are fabricated delusions. There’s also a terrific extrusion of humility from contributors spontaneity when their pronouncements are judicial, witty and on occasion, right. Though most of the time you simply experience a better appreciation for your own life when compared to individuals who clearly lack one. They are the definitive proof that despite the advent of technology that provides salubrious ways of communication, gamers have yet to discover the organic equivalent. But if we are being completely honest; they are still the comments you gravitate to first.
What’s the funniest trolling you’ve encountered? If any.
