With graduated regularity I have often expressed a passionate exultation of resentment to the overbearing attention lavished on gaming advertisements; the partial segments that allude to more than just supposition, elongated footage which weaves an all too revealing premise and leads to intimate formulations to the a games assured conclusion. Of course you want accurately defined presentation with conceptually vivid representations, distinguished, sharply resonating dialogue that gives you vague definition of the individual characters incentives, a fastidious but broad portrayal that highlights distinct progression of the narrative creating affluent notions in the viewers mind to proposed events, without sullying the any ethereal specifications of the plots eventuality. Developers need to build up charismatic expectation that is both commercially viable to a wide and varying demographic, but with detailed provocation that is also delicately enigmatic in context without encumbering the general concept. There should be immediacy in their own customary, lucrative motivation for a successfully profitable entity, by embellishing a great product that a definitive component of economic profitability. I mean you wouldn’t purchase a product so commercially omitted by its creators? But very few companies are capable of providing the accentuated balance that is adamant and courageous enough to renounce from persistently shrewd commercialisation
GTA V’s complacency in defining its contents has been ridiculed by many as passively contented, with a distinct lack of transparency or consistency with its definitions, with an air of apathetic impudence for its existing fans with conceited arrogance attributed to RockStar. It’s certainly lamentable just how opaque RockStar have been in negating tangible information regarding Grand Theft Auto V, but a company so historically innovative that has arguably not just been singularly the most profitable and conceptually versatile video games distributed in the world, but also the most consistent, with a similarly of the games series vying for game of the year with incandescent regularity. They have every right to pertain an ambient sense of contentment, with subtle misogynistic compulsion to simply frustrate you, despite the implied derogatory audacity they often display. RockStar is characterised by its obscene depiction of violence, its distilled carbonated ferocity, with abhorrent mixture of colourfully illicit profanities, riddled with masochistic ability to indulge in any illegal activity under the intoxicating persuasion of varying narcotics with cathartic viscosity, so it should come as no surprise that they don’t pander the conventions of more contemporary proceedings. RockStar is that friend that embellishes every anecdote, accentuates the stoutness of his phallic endowment, boasts of clearly fabricated sexual congress and generally belches obscenities with intermittent ignition of its own noxious emanations. It strides across the room confidently, akin to the pope in the Vatican. An expansive chested, intimidating presence figure that resonates confidence, often interpreted as pomposity that retains authority, quick to demonstrate superiority and exert its aptitude if it knows something you don’t, no matter how vigorous you plead for clarification will simply exude a smirk of prevention and contrast your requests for illumination with a retort of “No. Your have to guess!”. But this isn’t about their broad emotive dominance, questionable docility in conveying immediate clarity, or revised assessment of their amicable success, but the amiable way its publicised GTA V.
Following its subsequent insemination into a physical entity, RockStar promptly revealed……nothing. With a seemingly deliberate six month hiatus which questioned the validating credentials of its existence. Similar to Newcastle’s Utd’s spending policy, RockStar adopted a completely ambiguous presence by refraining from any discernible activity; no trailers, no screenshots, no ostentatious booth at E3 or in fact any distinguishable attendance at this distinguished event. But such evasive publication and prudent endorsement of its project can only be beneficial. Revealing such modest portions of game minimises the gesticulating anxiety from the perspective of gamers; how can you extract any rational substance or conversely, any contrived depiction from such a meagre discharge of information? We crave knowledge, persist for extensive procurement of illumination to further edify the scarcity of vivid pronunciations that circulate the circumference of our expectation, like a drug induced hamster. By subverting the broadened content of the game into one condensed trailer consisting of neutral radiance, a narrative suppressed by ambiguity and demonstrating visually provocative images, you impede gamers from concocting any unnecessary suppositions of what the game entails, through six months of extensive, negligible examination of illustrated information, that either corroborates their pre-existing speculations or more likely, fails to meet such theoretically improbable expectations.
Of course now, gamers persistent patience has been faithfully rewarded with a wealth of salivating screenshots, trailers and factually authenticated reports which has finally created some prospect surrounding the worlds most transcending series. But its down to RockStars credible influence and deliberate abstinence that such level of expectation is now creating such extensive publicity; they understand that a reprised resilience on personifying the games credentials prematurely was crucial in maintaining the games dramatic expectancy, entirely conscious that GTA, that seemingly docile and insignificant acronym will generate hysterical commotion amongst fans and the superfluous audience even vaguely aware of such interactive entertainment with just simple induction of those 3 letters. But they are also keenly acquainted that games often become stifled by aggressive commercialisation of their product, that nullifies the sense of urgency to purchase a game they feel they have already played. I for one can’t wait to frolic in the imaginative, satirical sandpit that is GTA V. Never underestimate the power of subtlety.
Will you be purchasing GTA on day of release? Or are you strongly opposed to the series? Let me know your views on this. Cheers.
