There are significant variants of individuals who are constituted as heroes, exceptional people with a testament to inspire others to produce similar acts of selfless courtesies. Whether it’s a generous expenditure of accumulated funds to aid some worthwhile cause, exceptional deeds perpetrated by selfless individuals simply seeking emotional attainment, or obstinate acts of defiance from oppressive regimes that seems to permeate rapidly all across the globe. There are so many gestures and a sincerity to help others and evoke inspiration into the hearts and minds of all affected. All very provocative, but totally irrelevant in a gaming sense. There are few if any non virtual persons that evoke such inspiring feelings, that is until I discovered Hilda Knott.
At the age of 85, Hilda Knott is the literal definition of a veteran gamer. Being of the more mature persuasion implies that your mind is feeble, unable to control your bodily functions, with only a vague understanding of the modern world, that your teeth are cleansed whilst absent from your gums, and you begin calling your grandson by every name in your immediate family, but their own (could you pass my drink Daniel, Jim, Phil, Terry, Geoff, Mary, Karl!). And the majority of your time is spent in introspective contemplation of more pleasant, vigorous adolescent feats. But Hilda demonstrates that age is just a minor inconvenience when it comes to indulging in virtual inclinations. Watching this incredible woman mowing down pedestrians with little consideration for her increasing criminality, with such a blatant, vigorous disregard for such ruthless actions is so refreshing, particularly when considering the constant detrimental effects that games such as these “apparently” provoke.
With maturity comes experience, which can provoke vanity, but here is someone so unconcerned with censorship or the apparent value of it, that she is free to be captivated by the experience, accentuating such delirious emotions from myself. The disparity between youth and maturity has always been a great deficiency, and functionality becomes an inevitable disability as you progress through life; from perpetual cognitive lapses, arthritis as well as other debilitating infirmities, it does leave you somewhat volatile that such illnesses constitute to a loss of gaming ambition as well as accessibility. But Hilda has proven that even in the advanced stages of life, gaming can still be adored, specifically by people outside the typical, restrictive demographic. I can only hope that I’m still as enthusiastic at that age, even with inferior dexterity and thumb flexibility. I still want to be able to decapitate zombies in Resident Evil 36 whilst a curvaceous nurse monitors my aching appendages due to my extended periods of play, liquidating my meals for more manageable gestating consumption, and providing cover for me when narcolepsy deters me from further progress.
But until that faithful day, I salute you most sincerely Hilda, for your infectious enthusiasm, your inspiring interactions with the most distinctive industry and amassing obscene amount of hours on various differing platforms. But most importantly, thank you for accentuating the widest grin across my face. You my dear, are a pure gaming legend!
