Before this years E3 many people were speculating on the existent’s of the next Sony console, and Sony were quick to respond and reassure PS3 owners that there was still life in the current console, but the PS4 could be arriving sooner than many experts had previously anticipated. Due to Nintendo announcing their next generation console the Wii U, Sony may have to divulge their intentions for next generation console for fear of falling behind Nintendo and thereby playing catch up, as Sony previously did with the Wii and the X-Box 360, which is something that Sony would be weary to repeat again. Rumours are that an announcement on tentatively titled Playstation 4 could be made as soon as E3 2012, but that’s about as likely as me winning gold in the Olympics (unless devouring chocolate mini eggs is introduced). The more likely scenario, even if the PS4 does exists yet, is that we won’t see an unveiling until at least 2013. But it will be very interesting to witness whether Sony have learnt from their past omission’s.
To profess that the Playstation 3 had a rather rocky inception is similar to suggesting that Hannibal Lector was a bit on edge. Critics claimed that the PS3 was trying to squeeze too much technology into one console and that it priced itself out of the market (costing in excess of £400 when originally released), but in time many fans and doubters began to realise the potential of the PS3, and it has gradually begun to establish itself as the top console in a very competitive market, and it seems clear that Sony want to continue with their forward momentum and would consider it callous to lose ground on its oppositions again.
Do you think there is still life in the PS3? let me know your thoughts, Cheers.
