Two of Resident Evil’s most prosperous games will be getting a much-needed update, Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Resident Evil 4 is already considered by many as one of the most defining games in the series, with its fast paced action that went against the grain of its predecessors, and helped reinvigorated the floundering series, so an HD makeover is very welcome. Although Resident Evil Code Veronica may seem a peculiar choice for an update, Veronica was for me, a grossly underrated title in the series, with some interesting plot developments, and thrust both Claire Redfield and her brother Chris together for the first time. Code Veronica was also the last game in the series to use the traditional gameplay that defined Resident Evil, with the cumbersome controls that would grant you with very little time to react to the impending zombie siege, and the creaky doors that somehow warranted their own cut scenes.
The HD updates will be available on double disc in Japan, but will only be accessible for purchase in the UK, Europe and NA for download on the PSN. No official release date has been announced yet, but expect the release of these two great titles to be around November 2011.
Are the HD updates a good idea? Or are Capcom just trying to fleece Resi fans for more money?
